Phenol Peel

A phenol peel penetrates deeply into the skin to remove damaged skin and reveal the healthy skin underneath. This exfoliation greatly improves the appearance of acne scars, sun damage, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation.

CO2 Laser

The CO2 laser removes damaged layers of skin with powerful beams of laser light. The CO2 laser also triggers brand-new collagen production, helping to make the skin tighter, smoother, and more youthful. The CO2 skin resurfacing laser is great for lines, wrinkles, pores, hyperpigmentation, scars, and more.

About Phenol Peels

Using a very powerful chemical — phenol — and croton oil, these peels are considered one of the most effective skin resurfacing procedures available to address lines and wrinkles, inflammation, deep acne scars, age spots, uneven skin tone, hyperpigmentation, sun damage, and more.

Procedure Details for a Phenol Peel

You should arrive at your appointment well hydrated. Before the phenol peel begins, you will be given an anesthetic (nerve block and/or local injections) to help minimize discomfort. Full-face phenol peels are performed with patients under deep twilight anesthesia. Your skin will be cleansed of makeup and oils so that the peel can work more efficiently. The phenol solution will then be brushed onto the skin Dr. Frankel monitors the progress. As the chemical works, “frosting” will occur. This means that your skin will turn white as the phenol exfoliates and removes impurities. This white frosted area will later turn red. Your skin may also be cooled during treatment to keep you comfortable. Once the frost disappears, a soothing topical cream will be applied to the peeled areas.

Recovery from a Phenol Peel

The results of a phenol peel are fantastic, but it does not come without downtime. Anyone considering a phenol peel should listen carefully during the consultation to fully understand the recovery process and potential side effects. The phenol peel has a big job to do, and it takes time to heal from that job.

Over the course of recovery, you can expect your skin to be red and very sensitive. It will peel, crust, ooze, and swell. After approximately ten days, your new skin will begin to appear and makeup can be applied. After 14 days, you may be able to return to your normal activities. The results from a phenol peel can last decades if routine skincare is consistently maintained.

About the CO2 Laser

Our CO2 laser removes layers of damaged skin using powerful laser light in order to greatly improve the skin. Such conditions can be treated as wrinkles, large pores, uneven skin tone and texture, scars, stretch marks, and hyperpigmentation. The laser also stimulates new collagen growth, which makes the skin firmer, plumper, and smoother.

CO2 Laser Procedure Details

It’s important to avoid sun exposure for at least one month before your CO2 laser treatment. Be diligent about hats, scarves, and sunscreen when outside. During treatment, your eyes will be covered with protective eyewear to keep them safe from the laser light. The type of anesthesia we use will depend on how severe your skin condition is. The laser energy will be closely monitored to keep you safe, and patients compare the feeling of the laser to “pins and needles”. The deeper the treatment, the more discomfort there will be. Your skin will also be numbed beforehand.

Recovery from the CO2 Laser

Recovery time from CO2 laser skin resurfacing will depend on the depth of the treatment. Your skin will be red and sensitive, and this redness may last up to three months. During recovery, you may also have some blistering, oozing, swelling for 3-10 days.

You will have new surface skin in 5-10 days, at which point most patients return to work. For the first six weeks, avoid too much sun exposure and be extremely careful about sun protection to avoid developing irregular pigmentation. CO2 laser skin resurfacing results can last decades if routine skincare is consistently maintained.
